About the Rank
The Wolf rank is the second official rank in the Cub Scout program, designed for second-grade boys and girls. It follows the Tiger rank and continues to build upon the foundational skills and experiences gained in earlier ranks. The Wolf rank is intended for children who are in the second grade, typically around 7 or 8 years old. It serves as the next step in their Cub Scouting journey after completing the Tiger rank.
Wolves are organized into dens, similar to previous ranks. A den consists of a small group of children, usually five to eight, and their adult den leader. Dens meet regularly to work on activities, adventures, and projects.
While adult partners are still involved in the Cub Scout program, the level of adult leader involvement increases as children progress through the ranks. A trained adult den leader guides the den’s activities, helping the Wolves complete adventures and achieve their rank.
The Wolf program centers around the motto “Call of the Wild.” The program aims to instill a sense of adventure and curiosity in children as they explore the world around them. Each year, the Wolf program follows a theme that guides the adventures and activities.
Wolves work on a set of adventures, which are collections of themed activities and tasks. These adventures cover a range of topics including outdoor skills, character development, science, and citizenship. As Wolves complete adventures, they earn adventure belt loops to be displayed on their uniform.
Once a Wolf completes the second-grade year, they transition to the next level of Cub Scouting, which is the Bear rank. The Bear rank builds upon the skills and experiences gained during the Wolf program and introduces new challenges and adventures.
