Welcome to the Cub Scouts family, new leaders! We are thrilled to have you on board, and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for you taking on a leadership position with our pack. Without dedicated volunteers like you, our Cub Scout program wouldn’t be possible. Your time, energy, and enthusiasm make all the difference in shaping the lives of our young Scouts. Together, we’ll embark on a rewarding journey of mentorship and fun-filled adventures that will leave a lasting impact on the youth we serve. Thank you for stepping up and being a vital part of our scouting community.
1. my.Scouting Account
The first step to getting registered as an Adult Leader is making sure you have your own personal my.Scouting account.
If you already have a child in Scouts and have access to either ScoutBook or the Scouting mobile app, you likely already have a my.Scouting account. To check, you can try to login here: https://my.scouting.org/ with the same password you used for the mobile application. If you are able to login, skip to Section 2 – Youth Protection Training below.
It’s important that you have your own account. If someone else registered your child for Scouts and the account is not in your name, please create a new account. You cannot share my.Scouting accounts with multiple people.
Registering a new account
If you aren’t sure if you have an account or not, please check with a member of the Pack Committee. We can merge duplicate accounts later but it’s always less work if we don’t have to.
If you’re positive you do not have an account and need one, you can create a new one here: https://my.scouting.org/create-account
First you will be asked for your name and demographic information.
If you already have an account, previously had an account or were previously in scouting, it’s possible you will see a screen that looks like this:
In the first example, you have a scouting record but you do not have a my.Scouting account. If this is you, select that account and click ‘Retrieve Information’.
In the second example, you already have a my.Scouting account that you might not know about. You can recover that account.
If neither record are you, you can click ‘None of the Above’ to proceed.
Once registered, you should be taken to your myScouting home page that looks like:
2. Youth Protection Training
Youth protection is required for all registered adult leaders and is highly suggested for other adults in the pack. Once you have created your my.Scouting account, click here to begin your YPT training. Training takes 72 minutes and covers the following areas:
- Overview And Policies (24 minutes)
- Sexual Abuse (25 minutes)
- Bullying (13 minutes)
- Certification Test (10 minutes)
You can take the training at your own pace; it’s not required to sit and watch all 72 minutes continuously. Just login and resume your training where you left off.
When your training is complete, print out a copy of your training certificate. From the home page, click ‘My Training’
You will be able to see the status of your YPT training and ‘Print Certificate’. It may take 24 hours for your training to show up. If you do not see an ACTIVE YPT status, come back later.
3. Adult Application
After you have completed your YPT training, talk to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair for a copy of the Adult Application. A PDF version is available for your review here. Please do not fill that version out, wait for the official paper copy.
A completed copy of the adult application and background check authorization along with the printed copy of your YPT certificate should be submitted to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair. They will have the application reviewed by the Chartered Organization Representative and submit the application to the Council office.
4. Position Training
While you’re waiting for your application to be processed, you should begin to familiarize yourself with the available online training.
Training is the best way to get up to speed with the scouting program. It is strongly encouraged that every leader take their position specific training. At the completion of your specific training program, you’ll get a special emblem for your uniform that shows the rest of the Pack that you’ve completed the training for your position.
